Maison on Frenchmen St.
The Smoking Time Jazz Club played at Maison last night. If you’re in New Orleans, you have to experience the jazz on Frenchmen St. at least once. So, Jared and I spent the evening at Maison checking out the jazz scene. It’s less touristy than the rest of the French Quarter so you’ll experience more of the local scene of New Orleans. The band was pretty good. I always prefer pure instrumental music when it comes to jazz so the singing wasn’t my favorite. Overall it was a good experience and our waitress was incredibly friendly. Bonus points for excellent service. After Maison, Jared and I sat at Cafe Du Monde to people watch – arguably the best thing to do in the French Quarter. Let me tell you, there sure are some interesting characters out there. Why do girls wear SUPER high heels when they know they’ll be walking around for a few hours? Low heels? Fine. But platform shoes? Why?! I don’t understand. You’ll look just as good in flats. It was also the Bastille Day celebrations in New Orleans yesterday… although the actual Bastille Day is July 14th. To save you some Googling time, Bastille Day is France’s National Day which signifies the beginning of the French Revolution with the Storming of the Bastille. The Bastille was a fortress and prison in Medieval Paris. Fireworks were set off at the Riverwalk and Jared and I caught the last few seconds of them. Our cab driver last night was hilarious and just went off about the crazy people he encounters every night. One chick told him that he shouldn’t charge her because her boyfriend broke up with her… Great logic right there. Definitely an entertaining ride home.
